Адриен Ван Остаде (1610 - 1685)

Adriaaen Vn Ostade probably studied under Frans Hals, where he has inspired by the subject matter of fellow pupil , Adriaaen Brouwer. His early work depicted peasant scene that incorporated Rembrandt`s technique of chiaroscuro. He later began painting calmer interior scenes. Van Ostade was a prolific painter and also created portraits and still lifes. In addition , he was second only the Rembrandt as a leading Dutch etcher in the seventeen century . He also painted watercolors that beceme very popular after 1670. Over eight hundred of van Ostade`s works still survive. His pupils include Isack and Jan Steen.
